Crime, your way.
Crime stories start with a transgression, but the best reason to keep reading may be the debt it creates. These shelves follow compromised people, working investigators, carefully made plans, and consequences that refuse to end with the job. The appeal is often watching someone run out of good choices while still believing one more decision will fix things.

Follow the pressure, not just the crime
Noir closes the exits
The noir shelf is for divided loyalties, bad bargains, and decisions made under pressure. Its tension often comes from recognizing the trap before the person inside it does.
Procedure or a plan
Investigations reward patient observation and the work of making connections. Heists make preparation and improvisation the attraction, especially when the people involved prove less reliable than the plan.
What happens afterward
The consequences shelf stays with the emotional and social damage. Choose it if the aftermath interests you as much as the act, and expect violence to leave a mark on the people around it.
