Letterer
Jim Campbell is the letterer of The Autumnal, joining writer Daniel Kraus, artist Chris Shehan and colorist Jason Wordie. His lettering carries the dialogue and verbal rhythms within the book’s mother-daughter story and folk-horror setting.

A closer look · Our reading of the work
In The Autumnal, pay attention to the difference between a close exchange between Kat and Sybil and the town’s shared stories and rules. Read the words in sequence, then look at the surrounding faces and leaves. The lettering has to preserve conversation within busy seasonal imagery. That route through the page lets familiar speech remain legible as its context becomes increasingly uneasy.
