What to look for
The Me You Love in the Dark works because Ro’s retreat initially makes emotional sense. Young gives her a recognizable creative frustration and a seductive promise of relief. Follow the small concessions she makes as that relief becomes harder to separate from dependence. The frightening relationship grows out of something she genuinely wanted, which gives the Gothic premise its sting.
